Our Vision for EYFS at Upton Infant School
Belonging • Growth • Excellence
At Upton Infant School, we believe that the Early Years Foundation Stage is the beginning of every child's learning journey. We provide a nurturing, stimulating and inclusive environment where children feel safe, happy and excited to learn. Through play, exploration and meaningful experiences, we build strong foundations that enable every child to thrive.
Belonging
We want our children to feel valued, known and understood. We recognise that every child is unique and celebrate their individual strengths, interests and experiences. By developing secure relationships with children and families, we create a sense of belonging where every child feels confident, respected and ready to learn.
Growth
We want our children to develop personally, academically and socially. Through high-quality interactions, carefully planned learning opportunities and child-centred experiences, we nurture curiosity, independence, resilience and confidence. We encourage children to take risks, solve problems, communicate their ideas and develop a lifelong love of learning.
Excellence
We want our children to strive for excellent standards both academically and personally. We have high expectations for all children and support them to achieve their very best. We promote kindness, respect and positive learning behaviours, ensuring children develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to flourish both now and in the future.
We ensure that children experience the seven areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum through a balance of adult-led teaching, small group learning and purposeful play. Learning is carefully planned and delivered through reflective and responsive practice that takes account of children's interests, strengths and individual needs. Engaging themes and challenging continuous provision opportunities inspire curiosity, creativity and exploration.
Our curriculum is designed to provide a clear progression of knowledge, skills and understanding, with ambitious expectations for every child. We aim to lay strong foundations for future learning by developing confident communicators, resilient learners and independent thinkers. By the end of Reception, we strive to ensure that all children make at least good progress from their starting points and are equipped with the skills, knowledge and dispositions needed for a successful and seamless transition into Year 1.
Our vision is for every child to leave EYFS as a confident, capable and compassionate learner who feels a strong sense of belonging, embraces growth and strives for excellence in all that they do.
